Shredding is the safest way to stay broke.
Not because shred is bad.
Because many musicians use practice as a permanent hiding place.
They keep polishing skill for decades—
with no releases, no catalog, no assets, and no proof.
That is the real problem.
Practice is important.
But practice can also be deceptive.
Why?
Because it feels like progress while hiding the scoreboard.
You can practice 5 hours and still avoid:
That is why some players stay “excellent” and stuck at the same time.
A simple way to frame it:
Practice keeps your tools sharp.
Output creates something that exists in the world.
If you only polish tools and never build the house, you end up with perfect tools and no house.
That hurts even more later in life when people need income, options, and leverage.
I’ve seen this pattern many times:
Then life hits.
And there is nothing to sell, license, teach from, or build on.
So they blame the industry, the algorithm, the economy, the audience—everyone except their own output habits.
Practice is mostly invisible.
Output is visible.
Output creates:
Without output, your skill stays trapped inside your room.
Do both.
Keep practice.
But tie it to output.
For example:
That changes the game.
Now your skill supports proof instead of replacing it.
Shredding is only “the safest way to stay broke” when it becomes a substitute for output.
Practice matters.
But practice alone does not build a career.
Output is proof.
And proof is what creates options.
What is your output this week?
Is shredding bad for musicians?
No. Shredding is not the problem. The problem is using technique practice as a replacement for releasing and building output.
Why does practice feel productive but still lead nowhere?
Because practice improves maintenance and control, but it does not automatically create catalog, assets, or proof in the market.
What do you mean by “output is proof”?
Output means finished work—songs, releases, videos, lessons, or products—that people can see, hear, and respond to.
Should musicians practice less and release more?
Not necessarily less practice, but better balance. Practice should support output, not replace it.
What kind of output should guitar players build?
Songs, recordings, educational content, backing tracks, lessons, arrangements, or any finished work that creates value and proof.
Shredding is the safest way to stay broke.
I’ve seen it a hundred times: shred at 30, still shred at 60, zero output.
No releases. No catalog. No assets. Just “skills.”
Practice feels productive because it hides the scoreboard.
But practice is maintenance, not building.
It’s like polishing tools all day… and never building a house.
When life hits, there’s nothing to sell, nothing to license, nothing to fall back on.
They blame everyone but themselves… and die on the hamster wheel.
Practice is invisible. Output is proof.
What’s your output this week?
