You Wasted 20 Years Practicing Guitar — Here’s the Brutal Truth

Twenty years of practice.
Decades of effort.

And today a kid can program something similar in 20 minutes.

Here’s the painful part:
Most listeners won’t hear the difference.

Let that sink in.

Practice vs relevance

This isn’t about disrespecting practice.
It’s about relevance.

The world changed.

  • Technology changed.
  • Tools changed.
  • Expectations changed.

If your entire value is based on execution alone, you’re competing with software.

And software doesn’t get tired.

The uncomfortable question

Be honest:

  • Would a non-guitarist care how long it took you to learn that solo?
  • Would they pay more because it was harder to play?

Usually: no.

What actually matters now

Execution is no longer enough.

What matters:

  • context
  • emotion
  • identity
  • sound
  • concept
  • experience

The guitar world still worships difficulty.
The outside world doesn’t.

The wake-up call

This isn’t saying “stop practicing”.

It’s saying:
stop practicing without direction.

Practice must serve something:

  • a sound
  • a role
  • a function
  • a result

Otherwise, you’re just getting better at being replaceable.
