You say you don’t have time.
But you have time to scroll.
You have time to watch.
You have time to complain.
So let’s be honest.
You may not have a time problem.
You may have a fear problem.
That is why “busy” becomes such a useful excuse.
For many musicians, “I’m too busy” sounds responsible.
It sounds mature.
It sounds realistic.
It sounds better than saying:
So instead of facing the fear, they hide behind a schedule.
That feels safer.
It also keeps them stuck.
Fear creates fake work.
You start doing things that feel productive but avoid exposure:
None of that is automatically bad.
But when it replaces output, it becomes avoidance.
The Real Cost
You don’t just lose time.
You lose momentum.
This is the part people forget.
The people you admire were scared too.
They posted anyway.
They filmed anyway.
They released anyway.
They failed anyway.
And because they moved through the fear, they built proof.
Now they are ahead—not because they had no fear, but because they stopped negotiating with it.
Instead of asking:
“How do I find more time?”
Ask:
“What am I avoiding?”
That question is harder.
It is also more useful.
Because once you identify the fear, you can build a plan around it.
You do not need a perfect system.
You need a smaller honest action.
Try this:
Small output beats perfect planning.
You’re not busy. You’re scared.
And that is not an insult.
It is a diagnosis.
The moment you admit it, you can do something about it.
Fear is normal.
Hiding behind “busy” is optional.
So be honest: are you busy, or are you scared?
What does “You’re not busy. You’re scared.” mean?
It means many musicians use “busy” as an excuse when the real problem is fear of judgment, failure, or being seen.
Is being busy ever a real problem?
Yes, of course. But even busy people can often make progress with small actions. The issue is when “busy” becomes a permanent shield.
Why do musicians hide behind preparation?
Because preparation feels safe and productive, while output creates exposure and possible judgment.
How do I know if fear is the real issue?
Ask yourself what you avoid most. If you keep delaying posting, releasing, or showing your work, fear may be the real bottleneck.
What should I do first if I feel stuck?
Create one small public proof point this week: a short clip, a post, a demo, or a finished idea.
YOU’RE NOT BUSY — YOU’RE SCARED.
You say you don’t have time.
Bullshit.
You have time to scroll.
You have time to watch.
You have time to complain.
You don’t have a time problem.
You have a fear problem.
Fear of looking stupid.
Fear of being judged.
Fear of failing.
So you hide behind “I’m too busy.”
Here’s the truth: everyone you admire was scared too.
They posted anyway.
They filmed anyway.
They failed anyway.
Now they’re ahead.
And you’re still negotiating with your fear.
So be honest: are you busy… or are you scared?
