The previous guitar lessons we focused on timing and accents, which we use to use more dynamics and expression in our guitar playing. This time an exercise on the song Een ster by Christoff, in the beautiful version by Stan Van Samang. When we put the capo on the first fret, we need the chords A, D, E and G. The absolute chords (without capodaster) would be Bb, EB, F and Ab – suppose you wanted to play this song on bass guitar or piano, for example.
The first exercise is a strumming with emphasis on the 1st, 4th and 7th strokes of a measure with 8 strokes, all downstrokes. Certainly not alternating for this song, because then you get hopping instead of a mechanical strumming effect. Possibly for the more advanced guitarists among you, I did the same exercise with palm mute.
