Let’s do a 2-string alt picking guitar exercise on the 2nd and 3rd string and let’s improve your speed and accuracy! Play this guitar exercise with a metronome, click track or drum backing track. In this video I’m playing at 140 BPM.
Left hand, it doesn’t matter which finger you use. I use only 1 finger to get a smooth sliding sound. Right hand! First play it down/up, which means you’ll be picking at the inside of the 2nd and 3rd string. This way your picking distance will be very short, which avoids wasting energy and is better to speed up your tempo. Then do this guitar exercise again, but now play it up/down, which makes you picking outside the 2nd and 3rd string. The picking distance of your picking hand will be bigger, and note that you get a different type of accent while playing the melody. There is no wrong or right way how to pick it. Practice both ways, but in the end it’s up to you whatever feels most comfortable! by the way, did you recognize the melody?
